Tom purchased this Veo Grande Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 for under $10. We opened it tonight (Monday) as we usually do for cocktail hour as we read the newspaper and talk about our day. We’ll have this wine tonight with braised pork chops, chicken broth and mushroom sauce, potatoes, vegetable and a salad.
The wine is a good weekday choice. While not fancy or opulent, it is an adequate and satisfying midweek quaff. The nose is strong on tobacco and cigar box, which is not a favorite nose for me but I have acquired an appreciation for it. The palate is dark chocolate and a bit of mint and herbs. This is a wine that grows more delicious as it breathes. This is the perfect Monday-night red. Cheers!

Not sure where you found this, but I found it at Sam’s Club one day and gave it a try. Most impressed. A very nice little wine for about $7 down here.

Hi. Read your comment re Veo Grande Cabernet Sauvignon (2005). I’m trying to locate this wine to no avail – even thru Sam’s Club. I live in MD. Any suggestions? What state are you in? Thanks for your help.

Hi Robin, we are in Michigan. Sam’s Club varies its wine offerings but if you keep checking back, it is likely they will carry this wine again. I hope you are successful in locating this one, Robin.

We found it at Sam’s Club, too. Occasionally, we get lucky and find a delicious wine at a reasonable price and this was one of them.

Hello Lee. Do you have a Sam’s Club in Green Bay?

We shared a bottle of this wine with some friends over the weekend. We must have got it as a housewarming gift or someone brought it over for a party. It was very smooth, not to dry. My wife, who is not a red wine lover, even enjoyed it. I would have thought it was more expensive. Thanks for the tip on where to find it. We will pick some more up. Thanks.

Hey Mel and T:
thanks for the info. Laura is cracking the bottle to celebrate, “wacky wednesday”! What’s your recipe for the braised pork chops? Yummy! Do you have any other tips for good inexpensive wine…?

Hi Kzoo gals! How great that you celebrate Wednesday. Love that! A very simple, but delicious, way to cook a pork chop is to (if you don’t have a heavy cast-iron skillet, it would be worth buying one) heat the skillet just to the point of where it starts to smoke (with just a touch of oil) and then let the pork chop brown on one side for a good three minutes or so. It takes awhile before a pork chop will be very brown and crispy so be patient. Once both sides are browned, turn the burner down to low. Then, add a can of Campbell’s Chicken & Mushroom soup, which has been thinned with about a 1/2 cup of chicken broth. Cover and simmer for an hour. (An option that i enjoy is to add potatoes when you add the sauce; they will come up saucy and tender and delicious.) Very easy and delicious!

A friend brought us a bottle of Cabernet Veo Grande (I think it was 2008 vintage) for dinner and I found it delicious. Very smooth and fruity. It’s a great medium body wine. Even my wife liked it (she’s not much of a red wine drinker). I was surprised how inexpensive it is.
